
Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears softball team finished an undefeated weekend home stand with Southeast Conference wins over Ketchikan 12-9 on Friday, Sitka 9-5 Saturday morning and Ketchikan 7-3 Saturday evening. JDHS defeated Sitka 6-5 on Thursday.
On Friday, junior Zoey Billings and sophomore Mila Hargrave led JDHS with two runs batted in apiece, juniors Mariah Schauwecker, Anna Dale, Carlynn Casperson and Gloria Bixby, and sophomores Tristan Oliva and Kiah Yadao one each. Dale had three hits, Schauwecker, Oliva, Yadao and Bixby two each, Hargrave, Billings and Casperson one each. Bixby scored three runs, Schauwecker, Oliva and Yadao two each, Dale, Hargrave and Billings one each.
Yadao pitched the complete seven innings, allowing 12 hits and nine runs, striking out three hitters and walking one.
On Saturday morning, JDHS struck in the bottom of the first inning against Sitka as Yadao singled scoring Schauwecker and Hargrave scored on an error for a 2-0 lead the Crimson Bears never relinquished. JDHS added two runs in the third inning as Schauwecker hit a lead-off double and advanced on an Oliva single and they both scored on a Hargrave double for a 4-0 lead. JDHS added a run in the fourth and fifth innings and three in the sixth inning.
Yadao led the Crimson Bears, going 4-4 at the plate with three RBI. Hargrave had two RBI, Oliva, Z. Billings and Chloe Casperson one each. Hargrave had three hits, Schauwecker two, Oliva, Z. Billings, freshman Tatum Billings and Chloe Casperson one each. Schauwecker, Oliva and Hargrave scored two runs each, Z. Billings, Carlynn Casperson and Chloe Casperson one each.
Hargrave went six innings in the circle, allowed six hits and five runs, stymied the Wolves' bats with eight strikeouts, and walked three and gave up one home run. Yadao relieved for the final three outs that included a pop fly to Hargrave at first, a fly ball to Carlynn Casperson in right field and a pop fly back to Yadao.
Sitka senior Chloe Morrison went 2-4, including a home run, with four RBI, one walk and one run scored to lead the Wolves.
In Saturday’s late game, JDHS pitchers Yadao and Schauwecker combined to limit conference leader Ketchikan to six hits and three runs. Yadao went five innings in the circle, allowed five hits and the three runs, including a home run to Kayhi’s Taylor Jackson, and struck out two hitters. Schauwecker allowed one hit. Kayhi’s Hannah Moody allowed five hits, six runs, struck out three and walked eight over three innings for the loss.
Dale led JDHS with two RBI, Schauwecker, Oliva, Bixby and Chloe Casperson one each. Dale and Carlynn Casperson had two hits apiece and Z. Billings and Chloe Casperson one apiece. Yadao and Bixby scored two runs, Schauwecker, Z. Billings and Carlynn Casperson one each. Oliva and Yadao drew two walks apiece, Dale, Z. Billings, Carlynn Casperson, Chloe Casperson and Bixby one each.
JDHS improves to 6-4 in the Southeast Conference, Thunder Mountain is 8-2, Ketchikan 6-4 and Sitka 0-10.
