Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - One of the suspected arsonists in the case of a vehicle that was torched at Skater's Cabin last August is behind bars.
Forty-year-old Brenda Jay Gallant was arrested Wednesday afternoon following a traffic stop in the 6500 block of Glacier Highway on an outstanding $2,500 Alaska State Trooper Warrant for Arson in the Third Degree.
According to a Juneau Police bulletin 40-year-old Ofa Ki Mataki Kivalu was arrested at the same time for hindering prosecution. Both were jailed at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
The other suspect, 23-year-old Patricia L. Jesus, responded to the warrant issued for her arrest on her own volition and posted her bail, and was released on her own recognizance. Her next court date is July 7, according to the Juneau District Attorney's Office.
The pair was ndicted by the Juneau Grand Jury on March 25. The judge in the case issued warrants for their arrest the same day.
The indictment says the crime occurred on or about August 5 of 2020. It says the women intentionally damaged a motor vehicle by starting a fire or caused an explosion while that vehicle was located on public land.
